PUBLIC REPORT ON HEALTH

Public Report on Health (PRoH) is a five-year project divided into three phases. The objectives in the first two phases are to explore the diversity of health needs and the changes in them that have occurred over time, and map these against the facilities and services offered by the public healthcare system. As with the PROBE study on education it was felt that a study of public health, which was well grounded in people’s lives and perceptions, was greatly needed.

The fieldwork for the research is being conducted in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa. In these states, public health – in terms of both the health of the people and healthcare systems – is being surveyed.

In the third phase, the findings of the research will be used for dissemination and advocacy among different sections in India.

The project is based at the Council for Social Development (CSD), New Delhi and is funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC).
